Go with the flow!
Hi there!
If that phrase triggers you, you are not alone!
For some people, “going with the flow” is stressful! Ey? Hang on a minute! That seems contradictory you might say.
But it’s true, for some people not having a plan or not sticking to that plan can be very stressful!
If you are resonating with this, read on…
This week I had grand plans to announce a series of workshops I’ve been wanting to do for a while. But one thing after another kept popping up to stop it from happening.
Yesterday, as I was packing the suitcases for a family holiday in Bangkok, I had a decision to make…
Take my laptop, trudge on through whilst on holiday and meet my “deadline..
OR..
push it back a couple of weeks and take the time to relax and recalibrate.
This is an uncomfortable place for me.
Planning is in my nature. I’m a big fat J for those who are familiar with MBTI!
Which means I like to know what’s happening, when, with who and for that plan to stick and not be changed!
Probably a by product of so many years in corporate.
But if I’ve learnt anything over the past few years, it’s that you cannot control everything and not everything should be controlled!
Here are some reflections on this:
Going against the flow is like going against your own self. The universe puts up a brick wall for a reason - you aren’t meant to go down that path right now.
Forcing something works against the flow, which means you are wasting energy on the wrong focus and getting yourself into a stress state which doesn’t serve you or others!
Being in a “flow” state feels easy. It’s almost effortless and things seem to fall into place. Rarely is this achieved by pushing a boulder uphill whilst burning yourself out.
So how do we go with the flow? (I’m writing this for myself as much as you!)
Be compassionate with yourself. Not everything needs to be perfect and on track ALL. THE. TIME.
Take the role of observer rather than director and see where life takes you with curiosity and gratitude. Like being on a boat on a gentle river.
Believe that it will come, it doesn’t need to be forced. Sometimes slowing down and pausing the peddling is what’s needed.
Just writing this has made me feel better and reminded me that being in alignment is what’s important, not constantly striving. I hope it has for you too.
Time for some Thai street food and hair braiding!
Here’s wishing you all ease and flow 🥰
